How to Set Up URL Redirects on Squarespace

The future belongs to those who believe (9).png

Preface: this works for any page you want to redirect to another URL on your Squarespace website.

Say you wanna change your Work With Me page from one page to a different page - maybe called, say, Let's Work Together. Totally fine and dandy.

Except for the fact that anywhere and everywhere that you've previously linked to your initial Work With Me page will send your site visitors to a page that's no longer in service.

*do do doooo* We're sorry. You have reached a number that has been disconnected and is no longer in service.

Yep. That's what your site viewers are gonna get when they want to work with you after clicking on that link on that post from a few months back, and then their hopes will be dashed and they'll go on to find some other cool cat who they may wanna work with. Womp womp.

Here's a super easy tutorial on how to set up URL redirects from an old no longer used page to a new URL on your Squarespace website!

Note: this post deals with 301 redirects which are permanent redirects. Temporary redirects (302 redirects) are a bit different, and you won't get what you need for that here - just a heads up!

Old page that I want to redirect from:

New page that I want visitors to go to instead

1. Grab your old page's URL slug from the page settings and copy it somewhere/write it down/remember it (I also make sure that it's no longer enabled from the page settings)

Old page's URL slug: /work-with-me

Old page's URL slug: /work-with-me

2. Repeat step 1 for the new page (but make sure new page is definitely Enabled in the page settings)

New page's URL slug: /lets-work-together

New page's URL slug: /lets-work-together

3. From your Home panel, choose Settings > Advanced > URL Mappings

4. Now, in the URL Mappings box, you'll want to use this format:
(Old URL slug) (arrow) (New URL slug) (redirect type)

It will look like this in the URL Mappings box:

/old-url -> /new-url 301

So, for my example, it would be: /work-with me -> /lets-work-together 301

5. Don't forget to press Save!

Presto! You've just created your first URL redirect on Squarespace. Super easy. Feel free to give it a test whirl. And let me know in the comments if anything's not clear!
